Mecanoo – New Harbor Service Building

Mecanoo's proposal for the international design competition for a new services building in Keelung Port, in Taiwan, was won by Neil M. Denari Architects.

The Mecanoo design, nicknamed "Cloud Gate," is based on a horizontal volume that seems to float over the port of Keelung. One of its defining elements is that the passenger terminal, loading terminal and commercial spaces are housed in a single building of 140,000 sqm. The result is a striking structure that has become a new symbol of Keelung, for both residents and tourists that arrive at the city via the bridge.
